Dark Matters 
No, no its not any kind of mystery to me. Most of the “cutting edge ” of most media is often by marginalized groups. Mainstream writers most often don’t think differently enough from the main group to be able to do that. I’m not saying they’re bad writers but so much of the scifi written by white males is often written from their privileged viewpoint, no matter how imaginative the worldbuilding.
