When Luke responded “I’m not for hire” it was at once a nod to and a distancing from the “Hero for Hire” subtitle that was long associated with Cage.
The discussion between Luke and Pops about not liking Donald Goines because of his overuse of dialect was poking fun at the early days of the Luke Cage comic when the use of dialect was cringe-worthy.
Of course you had a nod to the old Powerman costume with the arm bands and head piece when he emerges from the experiment that gave him his powers.
